The south hex in the Elemental Temple will bring you to the Plane of Fire. When entering this area you'll be surrounded by a gate - inside of here is safe. The Guardian will kindly remind you that once you embark past the gates... there is no coming back. The difficulty of this plane is similar to that of Plane of Dead, but still much harder then Plane of Sky or Plane of Water.
